Tire Pressure

Tyre Pressure & Deep Sand

Tyre Pressure & Deep Sand

All our vehicles are set to a standard tyre pressure of:

Front: 1.8 bar | Rear: 2.0 bar

This is our general recommendation for both tar and gravel roads. Check your tyre pressure regularly, ideally before starting your day. Temperature and altitude changes can affect tyre pressure, so adjustments may occasionally be necessary.

Driving in Deep Sand

Only in very soft, deep sand may it be necessary to lower the tyre pressure. This increases the tyre’s contact area and helps the vehicle move through the sand.

Use 4×4 in deep sand and only lower the pressure when conditions require it. In extremely soft sand, such as around Deadvlei, reduce the pressure only as needed. Once back on firm ground, return to 1.8 / 2.0 bar.

Important: Driving into dunes on your own is not permitted. Dune driving is only allowed as part of a guided experience, where your guide will advise you on tyre pressure and driving technique.
