Border Crossings with a Rental Car

Planning to travel from Namibia to Botswana, South Africa, Zambia or Zimbabwe? Make sure you arrange the required documents and permissions before your trip.

Before You Leave

• The vehicle may only leave Namibia with written permission from the rental company.
• Check that your insurance coverage is valid in the destination country.
• Carry both your national and international driving licence/permit.
• Have your passport, vehicle documents and all required insurance and authorization documents ready.
• Check the destination country’s current visa, customs and vehicle import requirements.

Border posts have fixed opening hours, and border formalities can take time. Plan your route accordingly and carry enough cash for possible border fees.
